Proline PLJW 108 - Under Cabinet Range Hood, 1000/2000 CFM | Convertible to Ductless, Premium Stainless Steel

Haven’t put it up yet but it looks nice and very quiet.

Just received it and it's far better than anything in a store.

This is for the 30" 108 unit. Hood is super quiet, minus the beep (fixed below) it makes when we turn it on. We pan sear steaks and chicken regularly and it captures almost everything, we love it. Shipment was prompt but unfortunately arrived with damage. Customer service was quick to respond and offered to ship an entire new unit but just the blower was damaged so I opted to just have the part shipped and replaced it myself which was simple. The unit came with instructions for a different type of unit (smaller wall mount) so I had to guess at a few things and watch a video the company has online, though the video was difficult to find and had unskippable youtube ads in it. (maybe these should be hosted on the Proline website) For my installation I was wall mounting with no overhead cabinet so it uses a french cleat type bracket. This allows some left/right movement which is good because you need it to align the pre drilled bracket holes with the studs. This bracket and hook system is tall, around 6.5", be sure to consider where your outlet will be because if the bottom is more than 5.5" down from the ceiling the bracket and hood will cover it. I ordered it with the 12" chimney cover so I had limited space and I had to move my outlet up (and re-install horizontally). The bracket also came with 27 drywall screws which seemed like a terrible idea so I switched for 4- 3" lag type into the studs. Which were fine but not included. Also, once hung it looked like the unit was intended to be fastened to the bracket with two screws that go through both pieces and into the wall. But, if you have to slide the unit left or right by a 1/4" the holes will not line up. I ended up just putting two drywall screws (27 included) partially into the wall inside the bracket to keep the unit from being shifted left or right accidentally. Chimney cover installation is straightforward and keeps the unit from lifting off the French cleat. The only issue here is there is no way at all to put the front center screw in. The blower motor makes it too difficult. You cannot install the chimney cover before mounting if you want it to be flush with the ceiling because of having to lift it over the french cleat hook. So I left the screw out, resulting in a slight bulge out at the center. Aside from all that there was some foam tape included which I used between the vent adapter and top of the unit? Seemed like thats where it should go... The grates and grease tray are easy to put together and install but don't quite cover the entire opening as others have noted. We have been using it for a week and haven't really seen any buildup inside. As far as the unit's loud beep, we have a bedroom right off the kitchen so we had to quiet it down quite a bit. If you open the fan controller box and put a dollop of hot glue on the little beeper hole it did the trick, still beeps but super quiet now.

I was unable to order the vent hood I wanted through the website, so I called customer service. The representative was very polite, got my hood ordered, and it arrived shortly after. This hood was packed better than most appliances I’ve ordered, with molded foam and a heavy-duty fabric bag for protection. Once unpacked, I could see it was heavy and well-made. The seams are smooth, the controls are solid, and the unit looks great. I paid way less for this unit than I would have for a similar one from another brand. I got the PLJW 108 and couldn't be happier with it. Give it a look; you won’t be disappointed!
